A hacker group calling itself “LulzSec India” has claimed to have defaced 30 websites and web pages belonging to various Pakistan government ministries and departments.
These include the websites of the ministry of information technology, ministry of defense, and ministry of railways. Defaced on Monday, 22 of these appeared to be functioning normally by Tuesday evening, 7.30 pm (IST).
Others like the websites of the Pakistan’s ministry of climate change and the ministry of textiles appeared to be “under maintenance.
“Happy independence day 15 August. 30 gov.pk owned. By LulzSec India #lulzSec_india #lulz,” said the message on the hacker group’s Facebook page, listing 30 URLs under it.
Speaking to Pakistani newspaper Dawn, Pakistan’s IT ministry secretary Rizwan Bashir said a total of 22 websites were affected. “Those that were defaced would be taken offline and ‘Under Maintenance’ pages would be posted instead until the websites were finally restored,” said a report on the Dawn website on Tuesday.
